you can safely remove .lproj files and your system will be fine. An easier way is to use Monolingual which safely removes languages and their assosiated files. Saves quite a bit

Well, are you referring to reducing drive clutter? Or CPU load?

For drive clutter, Ottawaman's suggestion is the way to go. You'll typically save over a gigabyte of disk space by clearing out all foreign language kits.

Also, check out the "Printers" folder in your root Library folder. You can delete all folders for printers you don't have. That'll save you several hundred MB.

Now, if you want to manage CPU resources you can use Alfred (http://www.inferiis.com/products/alfred/). But beware: if you do not know what you're doing, you could screw up your system if you disable any critical system components. You have to know what you're doing with Alfred. before this, you can check out just how much -- or rather, how little -- your CPU is taxed by OS X's standard install by using OS X's Activity Monitor utility. There really aint that much to worry about IMHO.

thanks guys.

Child o' C, how exactly does one learn what one is doing? lol

and you would be surprised how much this stuff can make a difference in music software performance.....------> http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FGL/is_11_20/ai_n6214501

anyway, thanks again guys. i'll try all of this out. just to be clear, to get rid of printer drivers, i just drag them into the trash right? oh yeah, and if one day i need a printer driver that i got rid of, how much of a hassle will it be to get it?

Nice link, NA :) I'll look into that one. I use logic pro on my Mac with not only the standard install but some 3rd party System goodies tossed in. my system usually hangs in there quite well.

As for learning what could be done? Dunno. never done it, myself :O OS X runs on UNIX. So, many of the underlying components will relate to that. Alfred -- that program I referenced -- does have some explanations of the functions. ABOVE thee system components, there are things that Alfred makes easier to assess.

What Mac do you have?

Out now.

or maybe even the macintel

That'll be a long wait if you're wise enough to wait for the first revision to that platform. The Bleeding edge of hardware can get bloody with Macs.

yeah that's why i'm thinking i should just buy a dual core now, then trade it in in a couple years for a macintel. mac resell value kicks ass

the dualies are out now?!?

You can order them now. They're presently shipping.

The PPC platform will be supported for YEARS. As the last of them won't be killed from the line for over a year, factor another five years of support beyond that. There are millions and millions of G4 & G5 based systems out there. Apple has a "Universal Binary" development kit that will maintain compatibility on both platforms.
