What type of connection do you have? Are you using a router?

I am running Win2000, on rogers hi-speed with a router connected to the modem.

I tried releasing and renewing the ip but when i tried releasing it says:
"all adapters bound to DHCP do not DHCP addresses. The addresses were automatically configured and can not be released"
what does this mean???

Are you running wireless? Twice I had a problem setting up wireless on Win2000 SP3 machines. I had to uninstall SP3 before they would connect.
You might want to know SP4 (the final Windows 2000 service pack) is out.

I just uninstalled SP3 and i am back online now...i have no idea what was wrong...
I am not running a wireless network...i can barely work with a wired one....lol

This means that your ip configuration is "hard coded" into your network settings. It does not get a random ip from the router.
Sounds like something got overwritten incorrectly when you did the windows update (we've seen this before in the shop). Usually running "winsock repair" fixes things up.
