LOS ANGELES (AP) — Boston Legal star William Shatner was taken to a hospital from the set of the ABC series Tuesday after complaining of lower back pain, a spokeswoman said.

Shatner, 74, had completed filming for the day at the Manhattan Beach studio when the problem occurred, series publicist Stacey Luchs said.

He was being checked out at a nearby hospital and was expected to return to work Wednesday, Luchs said.

The actor, who played Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series, received an Emmy Award last month for his portrayal of attorney Denny Crane on the ABC series.

It was his second Emmy for playing the character, who was first introduced on ABC's The Practice.

Sounds like an old 'transporter' injury. You can only dematerialize and re materialize so many times.

Well, in all those fights, on various planets, he was kicked in the back many times! And don't forget how many poundings that old starship took! And, as TJ Hooker, he ran too much LOL

:vil: It was probably payback. Although, I have been a trekker since Day 1 (9/8/66), he was always a pain in the bleep to all of his co-stars since he had to hog the camera, and have more lines than any other actor or actress in every episode. There were actual accounts where he had an episode rewritten so his character would have more lines than Leonard Nimoy's character. In the episodes Wolf in the Fold and The Lights of Zetar, which centered around Scotty, Shatner still hogged the camera, while poor Scotty could only say, "Aye!" George Takai (Sulu) has been quite outspoken about that, as well as Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura).

Alot of that is rumors :) I read the book ;) and since his book was released the said actors decided they were going to release their "version" of what happend

From, what I understand they were able to patch up their differences allthough James Doohan wasnt really interested ....too bad people do change over the years.

BTW, Ive been along time trekie as well

According to Jay Leno, the hospital fitted the Captain with a lighter weight toupee and the back pain cleared up.

There was some show that Shatner and Nimoy was on. They were on it being interviewed, when suddenly there was the distinct sound of a fart. Shatner tried to blame it on Nimoy, but I think later Leonard admitted in a round about way that it was Shatner. His digestive system was heard going into warp drive. :hys:
