I had the same problem, so I went to the update site and downloaded the most recent one to a file folder on my desktop and then had the AVG Control Centre check for updates in that folder.
It worked fine.
Hope this helps.

Which one is that? They got a whole list of files to download.
I hope Grisoft AVG works on there servers more.

Is this the UPDATE IAVI: /145 that you downloaded and put in a folder?

The one I have in the file folder on my desktop is shown as 'u7iavi151wf'. That is the correct number, but on the website I think it is shown as a .bin file.

Because of a major update to PAID versions of AVG to 7.1 all their servers are swamped... so don't be alarmed that you can't get your updates. ;)
If you want to manually update go to http://free.grisoft.com/doc/24/lng/us/tpl/v5 and get file u7iavi151wf.bin (http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/update/u7iavi151wf.bin) 2005-10-20
If you haven't updated in a few days you may need to get this update: u7avi651uz.bin (http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/update/u7avi651uz.bin) 2005-10-18

Hey Dan, can i just click on the file you have above then click open? will that update me?
I update daily, so I'm up to date except for the latest.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, you should be able to do that... save it somewhere that you'll remember where it is... then update AVG and direct it to where you saved the .bin file.

Well, that answers my question. I was wondering what was going on with AVG. Thanks for the info.

Still don't know how to manual update...go to site and it doesn't recommend...go to control center and the only update is the auto update...i have the file--just don't know what to open to direct it to the file?
I'm sure there is an easy answer....

R-Dog, do you get a pop up asking if you want to update from the internet or file when you click on update?
If not, you turned it off and need to turn it back on.
From the Control Centre click on "Update Manager" then on 'properties' below.
Under properties you'll see a check box for "Do not ask for the update source" and uncheck it.
Click OK then you can click on 'Update' and it'll ask you where you want to update from.

Did you run through it and try it?
It'll just tell you that there's now new update since you already have it installed...
Just so you know that you're doing it right :)

Now, for those of us with the Free Edition of AVG get the update to 7.1
As of early this morning the major update was ready for us... make sure you update as soon as you can because the Paid version gets it's second part tomorrow and will bog down the servers again :(
