A former software developer in Raleigh North Carolina has been sentenced to 100 years in prison after being convicted of child pornography and Toronto's internationally renowned sex crimes unit broke the case.
In December of 2003, the Child Exploitation Unit of the Toronto Police force came across more than 400 images of a young girl being abused. Through their investigations they were able to identify items from the backgrounds of the pictures. A girl scout uniform,a wristband from an amusement park and a school uniform eventually led police to locate where the girl lived and the school she attended. The unit then contacted the local police force who arrested Brian Schellenberger.
Seargent Paul Gillespie told 680News that this was some of the most disgusting pornography he has seen. "To bound and tie, torture, cut rape, force to sleep in a dog cage, that's what happened to this little girl" he said.
Schellenberger would photograph the attacks then post the pictures on the internet.
The 100 year sentence is far more than Schellenberger would have received in Canada. This is frustrating for Gillepsie, who told 680News, "I defy any normal person to think that this individual deserves one day less than a hundred years". He tortured this poor girl for months and months on ends. In Canada, a similar conviction would warrant only three to five years in prison".
Gillespie says that only through public outrage will force judges and politicians to hand out tougher sentences.
