Can anyone tell me if they are using 295.ca DSL service that goes for 29.95/month. How's their tech support and service is it worth it?

They're listed on canadianisp.com with a decent rating from users, but for their dial-up service only. No info on their DSL service - I gather its a new offering from them?

I did sign up for the 295.ca DSL 3.0 service after all. ( $29.50 a month+$5.00 for modem+7% sales tax) It took 17 days to get modem and setup shipped to Toronto from head office in Waterloo Ontario. Unknow to me when I signed up, they drop free webspace for all ADSL services, but I fought them on it and got it (20 megs). They do give U unlimited dialup, should your high speed go down. The setup cd worked ok nothing special There was no setup for email, had to go to their website to find out how to setup my email client.

Cons: It uses PPoE connection which means it is similar to dialup in that if your idle, it will time-out in 6o seconds and disconnect you. Ethernet connection doesn't disconnect you. If I had known it was PPoE service I wouldn't have signed up.

AOL DSL also uses PPoE

A lot of cheap Net companies are going for PPoE which means they can have many customers on the same line.

You should check with the provider if using PPoE, you be disconnected, if idle, is that what you want?

Hi fetch, I went to their website and I am assuming that you got the 3mb DSL service and just looking at your posted speeds, they seem much too slow for that service.

Example, I have Bell High Speed which is also a 3mb service and this is my result.

2395 / 645
Your download speed : 2395 kbps or 299.4 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 645 kbps or 80.7 KB/sec.

You may want to cantact them to see what may be the problem.

I did fix the timeout problem: all I have to do is go to to the Enternet 300 window then "Properties" then TCP tab of 295DSL.ca icon and set the idle timeout from 0 to 23 hours.

As per the speed thing, I cleared my cache( history and Internet files etc) and things seemed to improve.

I got this test result from primus.ca
Total Data Transferred: 36635664 bits
Transfer Time: 14.94 seconds
Speed: 2452186.34 bps
Speed (Kbps): 2394.71 Kbps
Speed (Mbps): 2.34 Mbps

Thanks for your tips and ideas.

Yes those speeds seem normal now which is great.
