I noticed that I'm picking up some vibration from my front left wheel at 130Km+, can that be a symptom of a warped rim, it's the last thing that I can pin it on.

Ummm that could be that you are simply driving too fast.....hope you have lots of money when you are stopped and get a ticket....the lesser of two evils. Think about the other guy just once that has a small child in the car ahead that suddenly has to break ahead of you and injuries or even death of someone simply because you were going way too fast. Can you live with the fact of killing someone???? I sure hope not.

Have you ever considered how much control you would have at that speed if it should be a belt in the tire thats ready to break...where would you end up?...thats right, either into the median and possibly kill yourself, or worse yet, you survive and kill an innocent driver next to you.

Thanks for the guilt trip but I don't always drive that fast it's just that the vibration gets really noticable at 130.

You are most welcome....now slow down and save a life which could just possibly be your own.

warped rotor...warped tire...uneven inflation of tires...could be a lot of things

Or it could be time to have the tires rebalanced... ;)

Fill the air correctly, test, and then I would balance them like Dr. Dan said.

Here's an example (and mander you can give me the guilt trip too ;))

My Alero: @120 -- vibrates, @140 -- smoothes out (And I prefer that speed), @160 -- vibrates again. I know my tires are out of balance and that's where my next oil change comes into place. That's when I will balance my tires and have an allignment done (My car needs the allignment -- pulls a little to the left plus it is time for one)

So enjoy your car troubleshooting. Definitely fill the tires up and then balance them. Cheap thing to do. I know someone in London who did it for me last time for $30 cash.

iwould check tire pressure first, then i would look at DR.Dan's explanation, as these will be the easiest, and cheapest solution to start (as mischief said). if these dont work, get your brakes checked, midas or somewhere give free brake checks.

Your tires could be out of round too, it's rare but it happens some times.

It could be a belt in one of the tires has slipped. That causes it to be out of round. Balancing the tires will tell the story as they check for belt slippage and out of round tires and rims before balancing.
Ground Force balancers do tell the story and you can even get a printout for each wheel. The cost, is a bit more though. Firestone in London charged me 95 dollars for the 4 wheel alloy balance with stickon weights for the outers and inners were the norm.

If your tires over heated it is likely there is tire damage, check the speed rating for your tires, my Michelin Hydro edge are rated as "T" which means the upper limit is 120kph. Over speed the tire and you risk damage as the sidewalls tend to flex and overheat causing damage and possibly tire failure.

If you don't have speed rated tires I would not exceed the rating for extended periods even though they race up your donkey on the highway, let them by, for the sake of five minutes it ain't worth your life or others.

Speaking of vibration, noise and allignment, I got my 1991 Cavalier certified in October of 04 and after the certification was completed they said that my car needed to be re-alligned so I let them re-allign it (Stevenson Steering Did it I believe) and everytime I exceed 60 Km/h the car really starts to make noise. I can just hear it travelling over the road almost like a somewhat rumbling sound, its hard to explain, but if you can decifer what I am saying and recommend some things to do that would be great.

Sounds like tire noise to me.... at least without hearing it myself.

Now if you're not discribing the sound right, there's a chance that what you're hearing is a wheel bearing.

It's best if you can get a tech to drive the car with you and you point out the noise... he should be able to tell you for sure.

Alright thanx. It does sound like tire noise but I will look into the bearings.

Does the noise change when you turn corners?

Dr.Dan

If you're thing about a CV joint, it would make noise well below 60k....
and I sure hope he's not taking corners above that speed

And for the bearing, it may or may not change noise when turning... given that these are not tapered bearings ;)

You can run those well over 120kph if you want T-rated is good up to 190kph if you go over there is a table to adjust tire pressure.

Here is an interesting read on different tire ratings

No, No I am not taking corners at 60 have no fear :P. The sound disappears below 60 essentially, it just builds up until I get to 60 and gets really bad after that.
