I don't know what's going on with my rogers connnection, it's going "in-and-out" ... fast-slow-pause-fast-pause-fast-pause-slow-etc-etc ... is anyone else's acting like this?
It just started happening the past week or two. I have to do alot of online searches and readings so this is getting really REALLY annoying.
I don't think it's my router, i've got it long before this started happening....
Mine has been doing some funk stuff too. It's disconnected several times for a few minutes and last thursday it was down for a while...hours.

I'm in Durham Region and it's been acting slow and fast too in the past week. Last evening the internet was out for a little while, and when I called Rogers to report it, they said there was a local problem in my area.
Halloween curse? :htv: Coincidence?

Mine has been up and down for some time now, and I have been going through my settings to see if it wasn't my PC. Even on this site every now and then when changing to another thread it seems to hang then I get a DNS error message. Click refresh and it's back.
Not sure what the difficulties are. I was blaming my browser then my router then the connection.
It's a bit annoying but I can deal with it since I don't need a steady stream.

I just began to think it was my router, and i think it is ...
I tried pinging my router (192.168.1.1 address) and i'd get some timeouts, which is so strange cuz it's been directly connected with wire for about 2 months now.
Right now i'm not using my router... and it seems fine, for now ... so maybe it is my router ... anyone heard of any such issues or know how to fix them? - Linksys WRT54GS

Have you tried updating to the latest firmware? It's odd that it would just randomly start behaving like this though...
I am in the Willowdale area of Toronto. I have had slow downs to stops for a few days now. After a few minutes it seems to clear up with no action on my part.

Running fine up here in Barrie .... was worried on Friday, but when I went out to get some things I saw 2 Rogers trucks working on the local boxes ... otherwise my Extreme is running at about 5700.

Amazingly I bought a WRT54G about 3 weeks ago and after about 8-10 hours it just can't be pinged. I've just started talking with Linksys support but also put my old Linksys as the default (pre CISCO days) and we will see it that works.

I don't know if this is happening to anyone else or not but when I check my usage in my account it says this.
There is no current usage for this account:
Does anyone else have this come up ?, could this be linked to slow internet ?

Seems they lost mine too :rrg:
It was working fine last time I checked 2 -3 weeks ago..
I still have no internet slowdowns or anything... not that I've noticed anyway.
EDIT: I went back and tried it again and was timed out... logged back in and it's there just fine.
As usual, those Rogers account pages are forked... :hst:

It didn't work for a couple of days but no slow downs whatsoever. It was the new router causing my issue...figures.

Well, I called Rogers today to see if they could tell me what the problem is. The tech I was talking to said my modem was very old (long black terayon modem) He suggested instead of trying to fix the problem that I first upgrade my modem as they are trying to get these terayon ones off the network. Went out to Rogers and got a new modem (Motorola SURFBoard Modem) and seems to be working a little better. I'll keep an eye on it for a while and let everyone know if this fixed the problem :)
Edit: Right after I typed this....it died again...the only other thing to do is to replace the router.

Is there good airflow around your router? You might try to clean it out a bit too, if there's a lot of traffic they can overheat and drop the connection for a few minutes.

I haven't had a problem with my internet connection unless it is a problem within the area as Rogers like to say

KP, check your router's logs and see if it's rebooting itself or anything...
I would think you'd see something there if it's the router dropping out...

Well, i've done everything possible to try and fix this...the router never disconects the modem never goes out...yet every PC on the router (4 of them) won't connect to the internet...yet, messenger seems to work through all this..I'm stumped...I'm about to buy a new router and test that if that fails then I don't know what to do....Any suggestion ?
edit: When the internet goes out it seems like it's after a lot of data is transfered...then it goes out for about 5-10 mins then comes back on until next time .

That almost sounds like a heat problem. If you have a fan, try blowing it over the router and see if you stay on longer. If you connect directly to the Motorola Surfboard, is your connection ok?
I've noticed drop outs for a week now both at home, and the business edition at work.

Me too. It's like the DNS server isn't resolving IPs.
I've had that problem with Rogers before.

Mine still drops out every 10-15 mins...new modem...new router coming soon...if it still happens with a new router...Rogers is going to hear from me.

Easiest way to verify is to direct connect one computer to the modem.
If it doesn't drop you know you have a router issue

I'm getting odd things like getting password rejection errors on some email account but not other. Then a few hours later everything will be fine.
