so what is the deal on refurbished macs? i keep hearing horror stories of apple sending people garbage macs that have to be replaced.....is this just rumor?
and i can't seem to find any on apple.ca
someone told me about a dual 2.3 that was going for about 1500. i am assuming that is in USD but still.....damn! where do i find these refurbished macs?

From what I know, Apple Canada does NOT sell refurbs.
Apple has been suffering from a string of QC issues and even a couple of design flaws that resulted in hardware failure! Most of the QC issues were with portables, and all seems quiet with the CURRENT and recent models. The G5 iMac had heat problems where sometimes capacitors were frying. But, this new iMac they recently released seems to have a different internal layout that suggests they might have fixed it.

are there any problems with the powermacs that are out now?
I haven't heard anything. However they don't have the pci x slots that pro tools users are using, so be careful if you need these types of slots.
If you want power and don't have the bucks, a used dual G5 will make you very happy.

What he said. :) I can't recall there being any reports of major hardware issues with the G5 Powermacs.
This is something I don't track, but it turns out that Dell has hardware problems, too. They're spending MILLIONS to replace broken Dell Optiplex PCs:
