After thinking about this a bit (too late to unvote) I have come to the conclusion that they are alternating stripes on a dark, maybe black, skin so either is right. :)
Geez you people come up with some time wasters!

Their skin is stripped also from what I remember of an animal show I seen about them, as for my vote I say black stripes

I've learned 2 things today:
1. Zebras are Black with White Stripes (thanks to you)
2. Edvard "Teller" invented the hydrogen bomb (thanks Woodpusher!)
Gotta rest now .. all this heat, now having to learn 2 things in 1 day ... I'm bushed!
Dinner time .... no cooking tonight .... we're going out to eat and let someone else do the cookin'!
