A few months ago my desktop PC just up and died, so am getting a new one (not sure when, the chap handling my order had to go to the hospital).

Then yesterday, was editing a movie on my iMac (dont use it for anything else) and adding the music when it just up and died too. Cannot restart it at all.

Good thing I still have my desktop. Looks like you need 3 computers, one coming, one going and one here. But I thought iMacs were the most reliable.

My new cat Nemo has been walking across the keyboard, but hardly think that would be the problem.

Would appreciate some comments on what happened.

ps. it's 4 years old, and think the warranty is over. Will have to check

You're lucky. My cat never had a warranty.

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about your system woes. I hope you can get things sorted with a minimum of fuss and bother.

one good news is old imacs are cheap as heck. You can get one that'll run OS X for like 200 bucks.

Good one there, Doug.

Actually, think I was right to blame the cat. Was up bright and early this morning, rechecked all the connections, etc., and lo and behold, computer turned on. So now, can finish the editing. Spent 2 days editing a 7 min video.

Ottawaman, interesting article, but doesnt look it applied here. Tim, nice to know I can get a used iMac so cheaply.

For the record, I have a 4 year old iMac 9.1 X and the only 2 times have had trouble was due to loose connections, am sure due to the cats doing something.

So am set for another few years. Many thanks for the input here.

ps. love the iMac editing program. Had switched to the PC Windows MovieMaker, which is really deficient.

It's good to hear that your problem was simply intrusive "fur"mware and not a hardware one.
