Work, won't work!!!

I have tried 3 different live distros on my PIII and all have worked. I tried to boot Kanotix and PC LinnuxOS .92 on my Asus A8V, AMD 3000+, 1gig memory, 128 meg ATI video card but each one would not run after booting up.

Are AMD CPU's not compatible with Linnux?

They are just fine.
By "would not run after booting up" you mean .... ?

After the "boot" finished all I got in both cases was a dark (black) screen. I waited for a while and nothing happened. I know that in one case my DVD drive was working even thought the its light was not on. I could not eject the disk so I used the old bent paperclip trick. Well I got a shock.... the drive was still working but very quietly.

It seems to me that X (window manager) has problem starting or it "doesn't like" your video card. Instead of running from cd, you may wanna consider installing to hard drive as that would allow for some configuration.

You may also want to look into boot options for distros you're trying to use as some of those have a plain-vanilla, fail-safe configurations. That would possibly give you an idea which part of the boot process is failing.

I have a AMD system and every distro I have tried works fine, But I have been using Nvidia chipset MB and also video cards.
