My friend did it on his PC a few months ago, OS X was very slow though.

Yeah - What's the point if it runs 1/40 of the speed.

I've done it :hst: Not too bad if you have a fast PC.

it sure as **** isn't slow on a mac. it only runs slow because it isn't meant to be used that way. use it on a mac then you'll see

pc users wish...

Their wishes might come true -- sorta -- as early as january:

Imagine, oh Windows-using brethren, a machine that could dual-boot OS X and Windows -- NATIVELY! The upcoming Intel-based Macs should be able to do this. So, I imagine that one could play their games booted from Windows, and then get their REAL WORK done booted in OS X.

yah windows is good fer.... games. Real good at games. for now hee hee...

yeah but when macs have more of a user base, and more games are ported for the mac, then windows will pretty much be useful only for an example of how NOT to design an operating system. or perhaps, they could use it in the penal system. say, for example, companies who are found to be fraudulent, must use windows for a three year sentence, thus crippling productivity and subsequently the will to live. just a thought.....

All kidding aside, I don't think MS has much to be worried about. There's little chance Apple will take much away from them in the desktop/end user arena, and an even smaller chance in the corporate IT world. Even if Apple were EVER to get up to 10% quarterly market-share, that is still only 5 to 7% less for MS.

Reasons on the corporate side being much like an ant dragging an anvil up a hill include a pretty shaky history of Apple and IT to undo (despcurrent best efforts such as OS X server, xServe and xSan), a significant amount of retraining and "switching" mentally of IT personnel or outright changing of that guard (good luck!), a significant upswing in support from current Windows-only developer support from the IT/business arena. These will -- for corporations -- more than negate the downsides of poor security with Windows and whatever ROI models one chooses to argue for the Mac.

i for one agree and am glad. the way i see it, windows represents the world of homogeneous mechanical wraiths performing tasks that require a severely numbed creative mind, using only small amounts of motor instinct to go about their tragic working lives *ahem office work ahem*, while macs are used for, and encourage creativity and inspiration in any field that requires those things rather than forbiding them, such as in music, video, photography etc....just my view of it. who stole my ostrage!!!

Haha, like that one up there "must use Windows for a three year sentence"! :)

maybe three years is a little harsh....

Nah, I'd give 'em a 10 year sentence!

Anything most people do an Apple box is also done on a WinTel system.

I do/have done video editing, multi-track audio, prepress, web design, etc. and all on different flavours of Windows and occasionally on Linux too.

The argument goes both ways and you coming across like an elitist snob only fans the flames.

Apple builds and sells to its customers some serious kick-ass systems.

You know what?

So do I. :)

i can say whatever i want because i am speaking from experience. i cannot describe to you the infinite layers of hell that is trying to record an abum in windows. everything from set-up, which on the windows side of the book usually has several daunting pages of gibberish to attempt to compensate for a **** OS contrasting one sentence in the OSX section: PLUG IT IN AND GO, to operation, which anyone who has ever used both systems extensively will be able to tell you the differrences there, and finally, the troubleshooting.....there is MUCH MUCH MUCH more of that crap in windows, and when you DO have to fix something in OSX, it is WAY easier.

an elitist snob? no. i absolutely ****ing hate most corporations period and microsoft is at the top of that list for many reasons. and what flames? dear heavens don't tell me a few people are going to type in caps at me or something?!?!? how will i ever cope? you take web forums far too seriously my man.....go get laid or something....or shouldn't you be busy in the registry? merry x-mas.....maybe the fat man will bring you a real computer MWA HA HA HA HA...seriously you windows guys get too worked up over this stuff.

Still is and always will be too darned slow. Aside from using it to check out what OS X is all about, why bother??
