Hello:
my printer gave up, it is a Canon i550, with 4 INDIVIDUAL cartridges,
it was a good printer and I believe it is the printer head that gave up printing BLACK, the colours are ok,
I gave it to Canon today for testing, it will take a few days, so I would like to buy a new one, something similar, and I have a hard time finding something like this at future shop, or best buy, or wallmart,
where else can I go, in a store or on line,
I live in Mississauga south, close to Etobicoke,
individual cartridges is a must, otherwise I prefere simple built and reasonable price,
ANY IDEAS ARE APPRECIATED,
THKS.

I have a HP, although it has 1 cartridge for all 3 colours, I like that each cartridge has the print head built in. So with every new cartridge, you get a new print head. Something to consider.

i thought only Epsons had 1-time-use carts (built it)
From my Epson point of view, the R200 is really nice. you can print on cds too!

Have you printed on cd's yet.
I read a lot of people complaining that the ink smudges if you touch it or it gets wet.
Normal ink jet ink or does it use special inks?

i believe that its just durabrite ink, it shouldnt smudge or anything as long as you are using Epson photo paper. Thats usually the problem. HP paper is probably the worst i have seen. Sometimes it will cause a crackle effect, like a vase. Anykind of white paper whould be fine. Some other generic paper may work as well, depending on the printer in my experience.
If done right the ink should last for 100 years or more without fading or losing its colour (properly kept of course)
I have printed on many cd's but they have to be the printable kind. They do cost a bit more, but If you were giving it as a gift (for example Johnny's Birthday) they are beautiful, and the software does come with it.

The Canon iXXX series were improved a bit and are now the Pixma iPXXXX series.
The following is the iP3000 that uses 4 individual ink cartridges.

staples. by far the best selection of color printers ever! w/ the lowest prices compared to any retail stores.
stay w/ canon, preferably the PIXMA series. iP4000 or iP5000 would be my recommendation.

hello everybody:
thks a million for your all your good ideas, this gives me some more to work with, especially the suggestion for Canon IP 3000 and IP 4000 and to go to Staples,
why did I not think about the latter, sometimes I can not see the forest because of all the trees!
I looked already at IP 2000 and IP 3000, they are in the $100 to $130 range at Office Depot, I did not know about the IP 4000 and IP 5000, two days ago I went past Staples at the Queensway and just did not notice the store, I can only shake my head about myself,
tomorrow I am set to go to Staples, I was already at a dead stop and did not know what else to do,
you guys made my day!!!!!! :ibi: :ibi:
I owe you!!!
is there nothing on the internet? I would have liked to take a look there too, but may be I am already buying tomorrow,
thks again!!!

I know, I know but The Shopping Channel has a Dell 3-in-1 Model 942 on sale for $139 ($159 taxes, S&H) and as long as you are not looking for commercial quality photos it seems like a more than adequate printer for the money. Replacement cartrides are down to around $30.

I was in a cartridge world store one day and there was a lady looking for a new ink for her Dell printer. The guy explained to her that they have to be bought from Dell and they couldn't even refill them for her.
I was just standing in line and this was what I heard.
From that, I'd avoid a Dell printer.

Good point dbusguy but in my case I always have spare expendables on hand so it is not a major problem ordering online and waiting a couple of days. Haven't had any problems to date dealing with Dell........

What seemed fishy (sorry Swordy) is that he told her he couldn't refill them. That just didn't make sense. If interested in a Dell, go ask at your local refill place about their services. Could have just been this one location.

Good Advice....She Who Must Be Obeyed is saddling up for a trip to the mall so I will check and get back to people.

hey everybody:
thks. a million for your help, went to Staples yesterday and found the Canon ip3000 is the improved version of my i550, and I can use the unused cartridges I still have left from my i550,
further this iP3000 usually sells for $129.99 and was on sale for 99.99, so I bought one, thks. tsehou and dazed for the suggestion, I could not find any of those Canon printers at Future Shop,
the iP4000 and iP5000 all use more then 4 cartridges, which I do not need,
buying a new iP3000 also is cheaper then fixing my old i550, which cost at least $60 for a new print head, so getting 4 new cartridges with the new printer (ea $18,-) is paying $99.- for a $140 value,
thks all for your help,
I installed the printer today and it is working fine,

Why would the guy say that? Dells are just rebranded Lexmarks. Everything is identical except for the label on the outside.
