I thought that this was already posted on this forum, but it turns out I posted this on a more than less reliable one, that nobody frequents anymore.
I've searched this forum, and the "runtime error" posts that have already been posted, are not by me, and they are not related, as far as I can tell anyway. So my apologies if you think this is a double post, but I haven't found a post concerning this specific issue, on this forum.
This problem occurs on my other computer, a Pentium 3 also, but it's currently running Windows 98 (not second edition), with Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106
-------------
I've searched all over the internet for a fix, and I've found no solution. I've read about a "rover.exe" error that can be fixed by guidance provided on Microsoft's official site, but that doesn't help me too much. The error message I've been getting isn't exactly the same.
The error I get clearly indicates EXPLORER.EXE as the root for termination.
I am running Internet Explorer 6.0 on this machine.
It has a Windows 98 Operating System.
I have read on the internet the visual c++ runtime error should be fixed if you go into the control panel and remove "Google toolbar", well I don't have that on my machine, I don't believe that I ever did. Something else online mentioned about AOL software causing the problem, well I don't have anything like that on the machine either.
I'm not all that familiar with Visual Basic. Is there something that has to be updated or tweaked in order for me to continue running Internet Explorer? Or would it be best to ditch this browser altogether!?
It's become quite bothersome. From a fresh restart of the machine, after 10+ runtime errors (which you click "okay" to, and it allows the new window to be opened), it will freeze up with a new message stating there was an Abnormal Program Termination, Explorer.exe. It's become worse since. Now, it's like 3 or 4 runtime error messages, and then I get the termination message. After it's closed all IE windows, it won't load the desktop! Just the background. Nadda else.
So I ask, in this situation, what can/need I do?
Should I just reinstall the browser? Is there a legitimate patch.
