Not on my watch. This is a subject that only zealots on both sides of the issue will discuss openly. It is apparent the rest of us have opinions but would prefer not to express them in public.

Canada's silent majority

Welcome back to the issue no one wants to talk about. Earlier this month, Environics released the results of a wide-ranging October poll commissioned by LifeCanada, which will probably be annoyed at being described as a "leading national anti-abortion group." Despite a sample size of over 2,000 respondents, the poll did not get much play in the press, and indeed nothing in the poll is "news" if you have tracked measurements of public opinion about therapeutic abortion. An impressive majority of Canadians continues to profess beliefs at odds with both the legal status quo and with the tacit stances of the national parties.

Consider the results. Only 33% of respondents said that legal protection for human life should begin at birth; 60%, by contrast, favoured some species of protection in the womb. 56% believe Canada should require parental consent from female minors seeking an abortion. Only 29% believe that medicare should pay for all abortions; 50% favour tax-funded abortion only in cases of rape, incest or jeopardy to the mother, and another 18% believe all abortions should be purchased privately.

BTW this is a matter between the woman and her physce and my only objection is when abortion is used as an alternative to responsible sexual behaviour.

I think people hesitate to voice their opinion in public because if someone who doesn't agree with you is in earshot you have to be prepared for an argument of epic proportions.

In this case I'll throw my hat into the ring with yours, since you were brave enough to speak up. I'm pro choice. There are a few changes I'd like to seein the current statutes and I agree that it should never be an alternative to safe sex.

Yeah, I pretty much agree. I've know a girl who was practicing safe sex (used several different methods at the same time) yet still got pregnant. She ended up getting an abortion. As guess as they say the only sure fire method of birth control is abstinance.

WhatI have an objection to is people who it instead of birth control and don't learn. I've read about some women having several abortions due to a lack of family planning.

I don't see those people in the same light as some young kids who made a mistake.

In the end though it's the women's choice.

Agreed, not a substitute for birth control .. personally I believe abortion should only be choosen if the pregnancy is a danger to the woman, if you able to carry the child to term and are unable to look after it perhaps place he or she up for adoption, there are lot's of good couples out there looking to adopt a new born

I.

Im not afraid to express my opinion about this subject but i think that the girl and guy should both have a say in the decision, not just the woman.

I worked with a girl who had about 5 abortions that she told me of and it was because a condom was a hasstle and her guys always promised to pull out.

people like that are idiots and i have no respect for them

Condoms are a hassle? so going for an abortion is easier? Well the 'pull out' method would not work anyhow. I actually know someone who had a similar attitude years ago, said that abortion was good for birth control .. we got into a heated argument about that and I just walked away from her, couldn't believe what I was hearing. She now has 3 boys and has even told me she wanted her third to be a girl so because he's a boy she doesn't treat him the same and has said she was "disappointed" it was another boy, people like that should not be allowed to have kids at all, should be fixed

When you look at the number of cases of child abuse and neglect you make a good point but it brings up another question....where do these people get their values?
