I'm not sure but is it possible to upgrade from a 2600+ to a 3000+ athlon even though the cores are different.
the 2600 being throughbred
and the 3000 being barton?

Yes, as long as your motherboard supports up to a 3000. Just check the manufacturer's site for what is supported (fsb and processor).

You won't see a very noticeable performance improvement with that upgrade.

The Barton uses the same socket - it has twice as much L2 cache relative to the throughbred.

Just confirm FSB + voltage support.

I agree with AMD

I have upgraded rom a 2100 to a 2800(Barton) I saw very little diff, so if ur going to uprade your going to see next to nothing. I would say save our $$ and upgrade to a lower end AMD64(Socket 939) you will see a much better performace difference.
