After 172 days, traveling 431 million kilometers, Deep Impact met its’ cosmic fate and successfully slammed into comet Tempel 1. The collision between the coffee table-sized impactor and city-sized comet occurred at 1:52 a.m. EDT, Monday morning. Researchers hope studying the asteroid will give them new clues about the birth of our solar system.
