As far as liners goes, I would be looking at the drop in type. Used to have a Ford Ranger with one. More durable in my opinion than the spray on ones. Just be sure to do a good oil spray underneath it before putting one in. Take the liner out every couple tears and re-apply the oil to prevent the box from rusting. Cant advise on tonneau covers. No experience with them but I have seen hard ones that fold either front or back and are easily removed if needed. Soft ones in this climate with the snow would be stressed in my opinion from the weight of the snow on them. Just a thought.

A good spray in liner is far superior to a drop in... but you get what you pay for.
If you find someone doing it for $100, it's going to be crap. A good one is going to cost allot more

The only name that comes to mind is Line-X... they're the place I send people to here... LINE-X vs. SPRAY-ON's (http://goline-x.com/spray_ins.shtml)

Now tonneau covers... type is personal preferance...
If you are asking what's the best soft non-snap tonneau cover, then I have the for you.

Extang http://www.extang.com/
This is the style I have on my truck http://www.extang.com/docs/fulltilt.html
It's the greatest thing... lifts up like a hard cover for easy access, it's easily removed for larger loads, costs 1/2 and weighs 1/3 of a hard cover. ;)

Any other questions?

Thanks for the fast response..can you give an appox. cost and where in ontario you got yours.
Getting a Canyon in a few weeks--would like to get cover soon..can wait till spring for spray-on liner (or get cheap drop-in from dealer $250.)

Thanks again

My tonneau cover was bought and installed @ California Carsmetics here in London for around $400 4 years ago (thier website is under constuction, so don't bother looking)

Save the $250 from that drop in and wait for the spray in... well worth it.

Yep, Rhino is good too... but it's harder to find a Rhino dealer than a Line-X dealer in Canada.
They're both very good liners

A bud from Windsor had the Rhino liner installed and opted for the smooth colour keyed spray. Looks fantastic!
Not sure about the dealers here though.

So spray liners are what? appox $500 ?

Rustynut
12-10-2005, 10:15 PM
Price wise I cannot say. Suggest you call one of the dealers for a price.
Remember, you only get what you pay for. Spend 250 bucks and take a chance on it blowing out of your box on the 401 or pay the extra for something that really works.
Most plastic liners do wear the paint beneath, allowing rust to take hold. No way of getting around the movement of the plastic liner, if you do opt for plastic then never drive with your tailgate open when empty, if you do just don't pass me on the highway. ( I don't relish the thoughts of getting one of those in my windscreen)

LoL Rusty... If they're actually installed they don't blow out... but I have seen many that are just places in there without anything to fasten it in... Scary!
Besides, he's getting a tonneau to keep it all closed in ;)

Cost is variable on the size of the bed on the truck... but in a ballpark of $400 to $500 is my guess. :)

The Newf, just bought an 05 Ranger from Higbury Ford and had one of those things installed, no Tonneu cover though. He passed me on the 401 on the way to work, I was in my rig returning to the terminal when he passed. As he did he called me on the company Mike, good thing he did 'cause the darned thing buckled up in the middle of the floor and blew right out of the box. That style is only clipped in by the plastic and if you leave the tailgate open to save fuel, it allows air to lift up the center and pop the thing out of the box.
One car almost hit it but luckily it went off to the right. I blocked it with my rig and helped him put it back into his box. Now he's driving with the gate closed until he can get the tonneu cover. :)

Thanks guys, there's a Line-x in Oshawa and a Rhino in Ajax, so I'll call them for Quotes.
Just emailed a guy at Extang to see if there are any dealers in my area.

My dad got a drop in liner but it is the one that goes underneath the railing since he will be getting a Topper put on. We've had a hard enough time finding the drop in liner yet alone now trying to find the Topper. My dad got the liner from the same place Dr. Dan mentioned.

Mischief, California Carsmetics also does all kinds of toppers too... but it may depend on the type or style that you're looking for...

If they can't get what it is that you're looking for, they'll tell you who probably would.
I think Trans-Can carries just about everything that CC doesn't... so check them out ;)

They told my dad that they can get it. He's just got to scrape together the cash and choose the one he wants. Freaking Dodge Rams and their Long beds. Probably most expensive in the market. Box is wider than any other pick up truck out there.

Personally I'd go for the excellent quality of workmanship and service, also the location is a bit more convienant than Carsmetics as they just moved out to HWY 74 and Wilton Grove Road.

Besides I know Lyle( from my Wonderland Auto days)

A bit more convienant? I think that depends on where you are ;)

Since his dad lives right near White Oaks mall I'd say Wharncliffe and Exeter roads are more convienant ;)

Also, all of those places do good work... I can't knock any of them...

I've known the Brooks brothers (owners of CC) since they opened in 1988 and seen nothing but great work come out of there... I wouldn't recommend them if it was any other way ;)

Shawn's old truck still takes 'best of show' at most places it goes :)

My dad has been to both of them and he prefers CC because of the selection and wiggle room for prices. Plus we were pleased with their quick work on the drop in liner.

I'd never knock the work out of CC, although I didn't like some of the "mini trucks'' in the early 90's.

I don't think they have the shop by the old Rocky's anymore, the new location is a nice lot just a bit of an odd location.

Huh?? They are in Rocky's old shop... well, the whole showroom area and 1/2 of the old shop... lease is too much for the whole thing...
At least they were still there last month when I was by there... :rrg:

I just tried their old number... it's now changed to the one you posted...
Guess they moved... :tch:

Considering that Stu lives in Brownsville, and Shawn is from St.Thomas... it's probably easier for them to get there now ;)

As for all the city customers though...:rrg:

I've had a Rhino liner since early 1999 and hall construction and landscape equipment as well as blocks of granite some up to 1200 LB and we get buckets of crushed line stone dropped in and filled to under the rails, The liner still looks like new other than the shine is now gone flat, but the sun does that too and there is a cleaner to bring back the shine. I still use a sheet of plywood in the bottom of the bed a force of habit. It cost me back then around $500 .00 and well worth it as the resale value on the truck will return the price do to no rust on the bed. I whish I had it sprayed it over the top rails as I have scratched the paint there and the liner would have prevented it. Next truck maybe I should get the whole truck sprayed no stone chips any where then.
Landscapers that use drop in liners and carry fertilizer or salt usually end up with some under the liner sooner or later and that can rust out the bed fast. Those liners also chafe the paint off from road vibrations even that market came out with a pad to go in before the drop in liner.
I followed an empty pickup truck with a the drop in liner and its tailgate down up the hiway and saw how the liner lifts slightly in the centre at the edge by the gate hinge thus showing the movement in some liners just by the wind creating a low pressure in the bed.
For another opinion just go to a body shop and ask what damage they see from drop in liners.

Have the almost the very same tonneau for my 04 Colorado. Extang makes great covers and haven't had a problem. The nice feature about the one we purchased also is non removable when the tailgate is locked.
Got ours at van and truck world.
:)
As for bedliners, i got the factory drop in tossed in with the deal.
