If you're planning on buying this movie on DVD, be warned. There have been several reports of a mistake in mastering for the Canadian DVD where while the case advertises an English DD 5.1 track, it is not 5.1! All you have is stereo track on the DVD.
More info should come later to see if Universal will admit to the mistake.

lol I found out it was only French 5.1 after a bud said my burnt copy didnt have english 5.1 (thought it was something i did).
I reantedit last night , ill take a look and use it on my 5.1 system
Just checked the dvd i rented. Yup only French 5.1 track the English track is 2.0
that really sucks. good thing i rented and didnt buy. Is this with all the canadian island dvds or is it a few of them?

Unfortunately, it's ALL Canadian copies and according to someone who works at BestBuy, it was intentional. That's how it's supposed to be and it sucks big time!!

is there a big difference between 5.1 sound and stereo sound pumped through 5.1 speakers? is it easy to tell the difference?

Why would it be intentional to advertise it and then leave it out? I dunno if i would trust that info just because it came from someone who works at bestbuy.

This came directly from Universal. Despite what BestBuy told me, it was an error that Universal will correct:
we are aware of the current issue of the island dvd and are offering replacements,if you wish to receive a replacement please provide your full name and mailing address and prepaid envelope will be sent to you asap.please use this prepaid envelope to return the disc only.
the information you received from the retailers you investigated this issue with is inorrect. dreamworks has not issued a statement in regards to this issue. ( this quote by them to me was in respone to an email i sent them last week telling them i called retailers and the retailers telling me this is the way the disc was meant to be.)
replacement discs are sceduled to be available in late february/march 2006 at which time we will be sending you your replacement copy however if discs are available sooner we will be sure to advise you.
we appreciate your patronageand hope you will continue to enjoy this and other universal releases.
kindest regards

For those who purchased the movie and want to enter the replacement program, Universal hasn't set a Canadian 1-800 number yet, but you can use this form to get in touch with them:
http://www.universalstudios.com/homepage/html/contact_us/contact_form.cgi?email_id=10
Make sure to give them your address and phone number so they can send you a pre-paid envelope for you to send your defective disc free of charge. However, know that the planned release for the corrected disc is Febuary/March 2006.
Thanks for the info Emortis.
