Hi,
First of all I would like to say that I love watching your show but why do you no longer air in Peel Region?
Anyways...
It all started when the computer would automatically restart by itself
every now and then and then it would restart by itself more frequently
and frequently and run slower and slower until its at the point right
now...
- It seems to be constantly restarting itself
- The monitor light is blinking
- There is no display
- It turns on (all the CD ROM lights and HD / POWER lights are on)
- The power fan and CPU fan is all working
- I cannot eject the CD ROM drive because the lights indicate its 'busy'
- I replaced the CMOS battery and it didnt seem to do anything
I cant really tell you anything else about what happened before it all stopped working because it was my cousins computer.
Anyways... any help at all would be greatly appreciated... THANKS!
Can you tell me how to stop it from constantly restarting cause right now

Check the computer for viruses, spyware, memory problems. Make sure that the CPU and fan are seated properly.Try to remove any dust build up around the above areas.

Computer Keeps Restarting after Displaying Black Startup Screen
Does this happen when you try to start your Windows XP computer? You see the black startup screen for a short time, but then instead of loading the operating system and displaying the desktop, the computer reboots, and does this over and over. Ouch. To find out what causes this problem and how to work around it, see KB article 314466 at:

I cannot check the computer for adware/spyware/viruses etc since I cannot even get it to show me anything. However Im not doubting the fact that it probably has all of the above.
The computer turns on, as in all the lights turn on and remain on and solid (i.e. no blinking of any sort) such as the HD/POWER/CDROM lights. However, there is absolutely no reception by the monitor and the monitor light keeps blinking (it does not display a black screen or any start up screen). It appears to be constantly restarting with no monitor display and I cannot find a way to halt the restart or get any display.
From what my cousin tells me, it started to restart by itself like once a day or something until the frequency of the restarts increased until the point where I cannot get it to do anything else but restart.
Thanks for your help.

When you turn it on, does it beep?
If it beeps, how often and are they long or short or a mixture of both?
What motherboard does your cousin have?

If the beep that you are referring to is the 'start-up' beep, it makes no such sound - there are no beeps of any sort. I dont know... this is some wacked problem...

if it is Win98 , Do this..
Start Machine hold down the F8 key when the menu comes up choose Step by Step Say yes (Y) until the computer hangs Write down the File name .. Turn Machine off ... Turn on .. hold F8 choose Step by Step say yes until that file you wrote down.. SAY No (N) if it boots to Windows post the file here if not repeat.. Start Machine hold down the F8 key ... writing down the file names and saying No to each file until Windows boots.
Post the files that make the computer Hang.

Do as suggested above, clean out any dust and make sure everything is plugged in properly, especially the video card.

Also check the motherboard for obvious blown or leaky capacitors. May also want to crack the lid on the power supply unit and look for the same thing. Besides dust, blown caps are 98% of the reason why a computer keeps restarting or shutting off by itself.
:)
Classic symptom of bad capacitors. Follow the advice above.
Usually the motherboard is replaced instead of changing the caps, since it's not easy to do. (Approx $100 - $150)
could be power supply too, lots of people end up buying top of the line machine but get a crap PSU, and later on you get lots of issues, though check on the motherboard for leaking capacitors like AMD said

Never Fear MC, I have noticed that you don't seem to get any notice when you post. :) Some people skip along without reading. IBC rocks. ;)

My "Asus P4P800" computer running "Windows XP Pro" is doing the same thing. The one difference is that my hd only spins for a couple seconds before shutting down. The display never turns on and the only thing left running is the power supply fan. This problem was intermittent for a few days before it stopped working. During those few days, I ran "Spybot", "AVG" virus detector and defragged the hard drives. Sent the error report's I received to "Microsoft". The replies from "Microsoft" were....unknown hardware problem, then ram problem, then driver problem, then graphic driver problem. Uninstalling the "NVIDIA" driver and having "Windows" install its own video driver seemed to work for a day but then it just got worse. Have purchased a new video card but now can't boot even though I try several times a day.
Have reset the battery, ram and video card as well as vacumed. I had a similar problem last fall and had the mb and ps replaced. The capacitors that I can see seem okay.
Hope its not a problem posting in this thread since the problem seems identical.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thought that I would let you know that the problem was the Ram. I did a ram test from a bootable floopy. The ram test found no errors. Even though all the sticks( 4 x 512) passed the test, when the one stick(generic) was removed the computer worked fine and when a different stick was inserted in the same slot the computer still worked fine. So, now I have an extra 512 stick of 3200/400 ddr generic ram.
Later.. Sonny
