View Full Version : Are you having Rogers SMTP problems?

If you have having problems sending your email using Rogers Hi-Speed, it is possible that they have switched your SMTP Port.

As you may or may not know, Rogers does not allow any SMTP (outgoing) email server other than their own. So this especially impacts people, like myself, who do not use Rogers email addresses at all.

I had this challenge ever since this morning, thought maybe it was temporary, but it persisted all day.

Called Rogers Tech Support and they are slowly migrating to Port 587, away from Port 25. Of course, why tell us!

I was told, at least in my area, Port 587 will work, and Port 25 may also for a time.

I switched to Port 587 and all is OK now.

It is in your ADVANCED Options in Outlook Express, in your email account(s) setting, first item. If your Outgoing (SMTP) email stops working, then switch to Port 587 as noted above.

Thanks, Bogie.

Haven't noticed anything different yet though.

Thanks for the info Bogie.
When it does happen, we will now know how to fix it quickly.

Will make this a sticky for a while.

Thanks Bogie, when I first came over from sympatico back to rogers I asked the tech over the phone if the mail settings were the same he said yes but to use port 587 very easy to change.

One thing about sympatico mail and Rogers mail...Rogers mail works...sympatico is down half of the time

That's strange. I've been with Sympatico for 4 + years now and I can count on one hand how many times my email's been down. :rrg:

Lucky you.

It's a persistant on and off thing with some sympatico customers.

I don't recall my mail with Rogers ever being down unless the internet was down too and I think that's 2 or 3 times in 7 years.

Thanks for the port info Bogie, so far it's fine here but it's good to know because I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

since rogers left @home email has worked great. But I do find the new prot works better since yahoo has taken over the mail services for Rogers

No problems here at all either. I wasnt with Rogers during the @home days I was SympaticoSlow back then and believe me Rogers mail is much better. Has anyone switched to the new outgoing SMTP port yet? its pretty easy to do.

No problems here, but they have changed things before, and nothing worked until a phonecall asking what was going on. Then and only then did they say: "Yes we have changed the servers incoming/outgoing". Really.........:gaa:

So thank you very much re. the port information. I will save it for future reference. :)
