I have a Dell System that has a Celeron Processor with 897mhz / 128mb RAM / 12gb HD and am trying to install windows on it. But which ever cd I use whether it be 2000 / XP, I get an error saying that the files are missing or the cd is damaged. But when I use it on another PC, the cd's I work fine. Also, when the CD Rom runs it is kinda slow. The cd's I have are burnt and do not remember the make of them as I got them as a gift. So I am not sure If it is just the CD Rom or the CD's it self.

Are the CDs bootable? If not and you're using FAT as opposed to NTFS, is the proper "DOS" CD driver installed?

Can't give you an answer without actually looking at it. Post the full error message.

So let me get this strait you are trying to install windows from burnt
cd's....
that may be the problem you should install from the original windows cd.

use a boot disk with cd rom support that should get you going if you can't boot from
cd.

^If the CDs are not direct copies, the bootloader is missing which would explain it.

If not, installing off of burned CDs doesn't pose a problem - many people make backups of the original or split-stream with service packs.

the cd's are bootable and have no problems using them with other pc's. With this system only it is either not reading the cd properly, or giving me an error saying it can not read the file(s)

Probably then your CD-ROM on this system can't read those burned CDs.
