Here's a weird problem...
My dad has a Mac Powerbook running OS X (not sure what version, it's before Tiger)
He bought a Cat 5e network cable to run from our home cable modem to the laptop when he brings it home.
Now the connection is perfect running the new cable from the modem to my Windows laptop.
And the connection is fine running our old Cat 5 cable from the modem to his laptop.
But the new 5e cable won't work from the modem to his Mac

Ideas?

Thanks

Has he ever used the ethernet connection on the Powerbook before?

His laptop works completely fine with the Cat 5 cable (same modem, same connection), without changing any settings at all
It's just that he bought the Cat 5e because he needed a longer cable

I've never heard of a network cable not being compatible on a mac. They have the same ports, and work exactly the same way. My guess here is that perhaps there is something funny about that cable's plug that isn't connecting properly. I had something similar happen but on a pc a cable wouldn't work and when I broght it into the place I bought it, it work on several of their pcs, just not mine.
