Yes, greed is indeed a great motivator.

Although I don't put the burden of all this hype on her shoulders.

It is excessive, to say the least.

My book should have arrived in London already. I'll pick it up on Monday when I'm in London. For the last month I've been re-reading the series and have just started the 5th book. It took me 4 days to read the 4th book. Couldn't put it down even though this is my second time through the books.

She knows how to write.

She may not be the greatest writer of all-time in terms of critical acclaim, but she surely most be the most successful one at this point??

Mischief007, at 24 you probably the high-end of her demographic. ;)

Kelisis: Exactly. Not the best but the books grab you. I've never re-read books until this series and I seriously couldn't put the 4th book down for some reason. I was up to 3 in the morning today finishing the 4th book.

MouseMeat: Probably, although I know someone at work who already has the book. At 12:02 he bought it from Chapters. He is in his 30s ;)

LOL Let's just say that I beat that and I bought my copy at Zellers this a.m. Traded in 95,000 points and got the book for $14.99. I'm a happy camper. :D

Are these things signed and numbered, like a Robert Bateman print???

Oh well, it might help me if I at least watched one of the damn movies I guess.

Next time around on TMN.

I promise.

Sort of.

The children ond young parents that it has got reading is wonderfull The films do not do justice to her books but they are still injoyable reading. Evan them being read for the second time. But the first book set up all her succese.

I agree gollychuck - read the books first - then see the movies. :)

The movies are good but don't capture all the detail the book causes your imagination to create. ;)

We got our book today around 1:30 PM from Canada Post ExpressPost through Amazon. I'm looking forward to this one even though one of the major characters bites it.

It’s ironic how the majority of bashers (Edit: lack of a better word) rarely bother to read/watch the medium before forming an opinion. (Applies to everything)

The books have been arriving by the trailer load all week. Security guards stand over them night and day. Last book we delivered 70,000 on the first day. Should be more this time.

Pretty unbelieveable, was at yorkdale today at about 3:00pm picking up some things and decided to walk into indego to take a look at the new book. Everyone in line, and this was a big line, had a copy of the book in their hand. Children, adults it didn't matter.

I've seen the movies but have yet to read any of the books, wouldn't mind picking them up for my collection but gotta start at book 1 of course.

Reminds me of the "subliminal messages" craze in music during the 80's. Listening to heavy metal music would turn me into a satan loving freak, they said. But I turned out as only a freak. :)

Just noticed this today.

No doubt the stories like with Dungeons and Dragons will pop up, about how playing them (or in this case reading this book) will take away your grasp on reality and eventually cause your death.

I picked up my (my son's) copy this morning. For the record I'm an avid reader and although the books may not be great works of fiction they are well written and enjoyable to read. If the author is taking advantage of the popularity of the series to get rich then more power to her. It's nothing that big corporations haven't done and at least with the Potter series kids are getting something lasting for their money (or their parent's money), the simple joy of reading. Something that will serve them much better as adults than beyblades, pokemon or whatever other crappy toys end up in the bottom of the toybox shortly after their arrival at home. Anything that encourages today's children to read is a good thing.

Not exactly an author who's work is intended for children. You should read the Potter books before you condem them. If you finish the first one and hate it then fine but until you've done that any negative comments you make don't mean a thing to those of us who have read the books. It's a bit like a mosquito buzzing around your head. Annoying for a few seconds until the cat eats it.

I think MouseMeat doesn't even want to start because by the time he gets the first one finished he will be hooked.

I LOVE books. My brother is already half way through the 6th one but I just enjoy reading. Somebody take this as a cult following but to me it is a very enjoyable book.

I have not read any Harry Potter books but of course I am curious to see what the fuss is about now. This reminds me of when I was a kid and I couldn't get enough of the Nancy Drew series of books and then my Mom got hooked on them as well and ended up reading them all and then starting over again :)

You might be right.

My son has been an avid reader since he could read but I know a couple of his friends got into books once they read the first Potter. The Silverwing series is very good too if you're looking for something different.

It is a very good read Lee Anne. I'd recommend it. Full of imagination. These books have it all.

Quotes from the article.

"When Jude got that vanity license plate that said ‘Hogwarts,' that seemed harmless enough," said Polly Clovis, who attended Model U.N. with Mr. Ralston while the two were in high school. "But when he started wearing that wizard hat around town, we really should have seen that as a cry for help."

Ms. Clovis said that she hoped Mr. Ralston's death would cause federal authorities to tighten the flow of Harry Potter plot information to prevent similar tragedies from taking place

Elsewhere, President Bush called the jailing of a New York Times reporter "a positive step," but warned that many other reporters were still at large.

And most importantly

Andy Borowitz writes a daily humor column at www.borowitzreport.com and is the author of a new book, The Borowitz Report: The Big Book of Shockers.

Also Audiobook as well. OCRs of the book started showing up on the 13th. I'm guessing they were from the people who got them early in BC. That's where everyone was getting the spoiler information from.

I picked up the book yesterday and finished it at 3am today. It was a very good read although right now I'm exhausted. J.K. has done a great job of "growing up" the characters and hasn't lost her touch.
