My son recently purchased a new mother board with slots that I did not recognize. They were PCI X16 and PCI X1. Are they new or just a renaming of old slots?
If they are new, what are they used for?
Thanks
Felix
PCI X1 are regular PCI slots. PCI X16 is PCI-Express which is replacing the AGP video card :)

PCI X1 is not PCI, just to clarify that point.
PCI X1 and PCI X16 are part of a new technology called PCI express, which will replace current PCI technology. The X1 and X16 are the number of lanes of bandwidth the slot has, X1 has 1 lane and X16 has 16.
In addition, you can fit a X1 card into a slot with more lanes like a X4, X8 or X16.
