You can set FireFox to trim memory useage each time you minimize the window. This has been useful for me so I thought I would share it with you all.
1. In your address bar go to "about:config" without quotes.
2. Right click and choose New, Boolean.
3. When you are asked for the preference name, enter "config.trim_on_minimize" without quotes.
4. Choose "true" for the value.
That's it. You may have to close the browser for the changes to take effect. :)
