Good morning..

I just bought myself a Emac... I am trying a new world... Been having too many problems with my windows, so I thought I would try the mac system..

So far, It's a great machine. Graphics are excellent... and I can come to my boards at any time and they haven't crashed, got stuck, starting making really weird noises or anything....

I am new to the Computer Mechanics board and looking forward to participating on the board.

I really love me emac. :D

It's nice having a system that actually works without spyware and crap, and is a lot more compatible than most make it out to be.
I have yet to have to re install an OS because it got all bloated or buggy.

Yep, brand spanking new, right out of the box... Even has that new computer smell.... LOL

I am not very familiar with the macs, but am looking forward to learning everthing about them.. I am running OS X 10.4 version.

That's one of the new things that I am learning... I was hellbent on getting virus scan for my new mac, but we don't seem to have the same worries as when I owned my windows... This certainly is gonna take some getting use to... Wahooooo...

I want to be able to do things like open word and type a letter... I have been checking the internet, word is not a possibility right now... $ 400.00, yikes...

I am on another board that shares jpeg, and gif signature tags... we post them on our board and share them with each other... In windows, I would open a reply window and type in a reply... the window also had a rich text editor bar that allowed my to download any of my pictures on board... now, all I can do is attach the sig to the window... I have checked some of the toolbars and can't seem to see whether there is a toolbar or not... .. ummmm. and I have downloaded some Itunes from the Itune store... That was really cool.....

odd. Generally I find all of the forum software runs pretty much the same as my windows machine. I find though that firefox is a little more on the ball than IE (worst browser EVER) or Safari.

which browser do you use?

I am using IE at the moment... I started my group with that browser.. I have tried both firefox(which I really like) and safari, both with the same results... I can't get the rich text editor toolbar to come up....

also iworks or (appleworks previously) is compatible with office documents. Much much cheaper than office.

No use moving to a Mac and taking all the MS junk with you!

Enjoy the new Mac. :)

Actually, Tim, 'iWork" and "Appleworks" still coexist -- and Appleworks is on that eMac, Dark Chipmunk. Appleworks allows you to Open and Save As both MS Word and Excel file formats, readable on both Macs AND Windows PCs with generally acceptable conversion results. Also, Mac OS X "Text Edit" application -- analogous to Windows' Notepad--can read/write text-only Word documents.

You should also note that, from within the Print Command window of ANY application, you can optionally save ANY DOCUMENT as an Adobe PDF file! Very VERY handy.

oh. I thought that iWorks was the new appleworks. Didn't realize they were 2 separate pieces of softwares.

http://www.fckeditor.net/

I have downloaded and unzipped the file.... How do I use the toolbar? the group that I am in already has a website editor, not sure what it is.... I am looking for the rich text editor that you would find if you were to post a reply... the toolbar would have the same pictures, which include the mountain picture (insert image, like the one on this board). That's the one that I am looking for...

Problem.... On this board, Lifelongfriendsaremadehereagain.com I am trying to upload my jpg, gif etc..... inside of the reply message window, everything is there except that rich text editor toolbar...

Thanks
Dark Chipmunk
