My mobo supports upto AGP 4x. What's the meaning of the 4x? I would like to purchase an All-In-Wonder X800 XT which supports 4x and 8x, but would 8x make it faster?

if your board doesn't support 8x it will run at 4x and it wont be faster.

So you think I shouldnt buy it? Does that mean im only gettin half the performance the card offers?

Not worth spending that kind of money for features you can't use.

The real world difference between 8x and 4x AGP is negligible, since video cards can't take advantage of the additional bandwidth. If a device can only move "x" amount of data per second, there is no point using a bus/connection which is capable of transferring twice as much.

That card will run nicely with a 2.8Ghz processor - shouldn't have any issues.

That card will run fine at AGP 4X. As AMD has said, AGP 4X and 8X are a way to say how much data can be moved through the AGP port. The higher the number, the more data that can be moved; in theory though.

The problem is that in real world application, the video card doesn't move more data than an AGP 4X port can handle. Thus AGP 8X is a useless improvement as it isn't utilized.

Do to these facts, the video card you are going to buy will run fine at AGP 4X. You won't experience any performance shortcomings because you are only using AGP 4X instead of AGP 8X.

Thanks for clearing that up guys :D By the way im probably going to get the card for 250-300 CDN off ebay. Saving 200-300 depending where you buy it. Hopefully it will last a few years
