I have Symatpico HSE with XP Pro SP2. Just yesterday I noticed a huge drop in my speed. It was cut by around half. Only my download speed was affected though, which was wierd. I used to be getting just under 1 Mbit now im getting around 450 Kbits. I did a tweak test and changed the settings to what they suggested, rebooted and still the same thing.
Anyone have any ideas?

The best thing I can suggest is : Double up on your filters, move your modem away from your computer and are you usuing all of the cabeling they supplied with the kit?

I have filters on all the phones, and using all the cables they sent. I'll move it away from my computer, but its always been this close everything and i was getting around 1 mbit. Also, I just bought a 6600GT video card and I noticed the speed drop after I installed it. Its right above my network card. Do you think that the heat from the video card could be doing something to my network card?

If your only getting around I meg normally and your on high speed Id say distance is the issue. You need to be within 2.8Kmh of the Co to get really good speeds. I would try testing the video card if your still noticeing a speed drop and your usuing all of the cables they sent, and your phones are filtered Give them a call 310-Surf
Good luck.

If that's exactly when it started, I would suspect the video card is the culprit somehow.
What happens when you remove it? - does the problem still exist?

I did a distance test before, thats why I'm only getting 1 Mbit because I'm just outside the regualr 3 Mbit speeds.
I just felt my network card and its pretty hot. Im going to move it down a few slots and see what happens.
If none of these work, I'm going to phone them tomorrow or wednesday see if they can help (not likely though).

UPDATE:
Ok, I just moved my network card down and moved the DSL modem away from my PC and I'm back up to around 900 Kbits, so its back to normal. I'll post tomorrow for an update. Thanks for the help guys.

Your speeds are still quite low even without this problem :(
As Swordfish alluded to, you must be far away from the nearest CO. You and I are likely paying the same price, but my speeds are as follows:
2006-01-01 17:59:07 EST: 2420 / 659
Your download speed : 2420 kbps or 302.5 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 659 kbps or 82.4 KB/sec.
If I was getting your speeds on Sympatico HSE, I'd be looking for another ISP. Just my .02 cents

Well, my speed dropped to new lows. Its at like 100/120 (down/up). Im almost positive that its my computer. Last night I was getting "my normal speeds" but now its just terrible. I tried to reinstall the network drivers and all that, still the same thing. Im thinking of formatting my computer and starting fresh. I'll probably do that tonight or tomorrow.
Back to the distance problem, is there a site that I can check how far away I am from the nearest CO? I really dont want to phone Bell to find this out, it'll take too long.
Also, I am thinking of getting a new ISP, more than likely Rogers Ultra, but my parents are thinking of getting a satelite so they will get rid of the cable.
UDPATE/EDIT:
I just swapped my video cards around and still the same speeds, I really didnt except it to do anything.
I noticed something when I went into device manager, when I reinstalled my network card, it has #2 after it. I forgot to remove the device when I initially unistalled it (silly me) so this may be the problem. And the first one isnt in device manager anymore so I guess all I have left to do is format.

Also I'm noticing that the DSL light on my modem is going off regularly, like every few hours for about 10 minutes. So maybe they are fixing some of the lines....

Do you happen to have the line from the modem to the telephone jack plugged into a splitter? They have been know to cause problems with connectivety and speed. Make sure its plugged directly into the wall jack. Get a dual jack if need be.

I dont have it into a spliter, but I do have it plugged into a cable extender, Ill try and find a long enough phone line to use.
Going to phone Bell in about an hour or two, when I get home. I started up my computer this morning before I went out and I was getting "better" speeds, around 700/130.

Ok, I finally had time to phone Bell this afternoon. I told them my problem and the tech lady did a few simple tests. She is "forwarding" all of my info to another department to run some more tests and see what the problem is. I also told her before all of this that I was only getting around 1 mbps download instead of the 3 mbps and she said that the line will be upgraded (hopefully). So when they phone me back after that tests and all that, I'll post what they told me.
Is there anything that I should talk to them about next time if nothing can be fixed?
