Happy New Year everyone! I hope I can get some help on buying a female Yorkie puppy. Where can I buy a Yorkie from a reputable breeder in Toronto or near here? What is the average cost of a Yorkie from a breeder? I've heard that females cost more because they are more in demand, and there aren't as many females compared to males in a litter. I contacted two breeders via e-mail and asked them how much they charge for a male and a female, but for some reason they won't answer this question. They just answered the questions that they wanted to and didn't answer all the ones I asked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Buffy

Our Treasurer has this little guy, bought by her daughter, then 'inherited' by her after marriage.
I'll check with her on Thursday morning to see where they got him.
He's a real beauty. Popped in yesterday, actually. :d
Google dog breeders then specify areas. Do your homework and it's best to visit the breeder, to see for yourself the conditions the puppies are living in and to check out the breeder themselves. This can greatly impact the quality of pet you get.
I bought purebred persians this way, I traveled to north of London, Ontario (Ailsa Craig) for two of them. I found the breeders online, communicated with them via email to begin with, spoke with them on the phone, and then visited cattery a reputable breeder will want to check you out thoroughly as well. The other two came from Guelph, but the same procedure.
They may not have wanted to give you prices for a male and female for a reason, with mine they both wouldnt because they could suspect you will breed them, if you were not clear about wanting one or the other.
If you have never bought purebred before, reputable breeders will require you to sign a contract regarding this and neutering/spaying etc.
Just a quick look online for Yorkies found me a breeder (but in the U.S. (they do ship if you are willing to take the chance and pay) and the lowest price I saw was $600, highest was around $2KUSD) There can be huge differences in the quality of the pups so again you have to do your research.

This should help, I hope. A reputable breeder will ask you just as many questions as you have for them as they really care for thier pups. I recommend puppies from a "home raised" breeder. As the pups are treated like family members from day 1 not as $$$ signs. Make sure any gaurantee the breeder mentions to you is in writing, that the CKC registration papers are provided along with the pups "family "history. Let the breeder know if you want the pup as a family member not as a showdog (some will give a discount if you sign a non-breeding contract). Females sometimes can be more $$ as they can be $$ machines if you breed them and sell the pups. Hope this helps some

I have a pure bred Papillion that I got from a breeder in North Bay(this is my 3rd dog from them). They "home" raise the pups for 3 months before letting them go. I got Scout 4 yrs ago and they still call a few times a year to see how he is doing.

This is a great start. Call the various breeders and arrange to visit them at their facilities. If anything there makes you uncomfortable walk away, and move on to another one.

you know a dog groomer can also give you an opion on some of the dog breeders .. as to temperment (sometimes)
-only in some incidences would you be able to take advantage of such an asset.

Veterinarians can also be a good source of information. That's how I found the breeder for my Border Collie :)

Yes, I have. I'm hoping people who have bought Yorkies can refer me to specific breeders they have dealt with.

I did specify that I wanted a female, but I asked how much they charge for both males and females because I'm curious. Thanks for the explanation. This will be my first dog. I have read books on Yorkies, so I'm aware of things to look for but I'm always learning.

Thanks for the listing. I didn't know that a breeder might give a discount if you sign a breeding contract. That's good to know. I'll definitely inquire. :)

I plan to check out two vet clinics in my area so I'll ask. I'm glad you were able to find your dog this way. :)

Well, the breeder lives on Gibbons St in Oshawa, but without a name or actual address that's less then useless.
Tried Goggling and 411.ca. No luck.
I'll keep digging. :)

Maybe it's Dayjuel Perm Reg'd, Julie Baird, 325 Gibbons St, Oshawa, ON L1J 4Z1. (905-576-4354; e-mail: davidbaird@sympatico.ca). This was one of the breeders that Taz listed in his message above.

I think I should clean my glasses more often.
I would say that's correct, with 99% certainty.
Maybe I'll to a drop-in, and see when their next batch is due.
