an update to the do you prefer barbecue or honey garlic? thread
Disturbing Twist
Remember the story of the German man who advertised on the Internet for someone who wanted to be eaten?
Incredibly, Armin Meiwes (top left) found a volunteer and in a gruesome case that startled the world, made his fantasy come true.
He now sits in a German jail serving eight-and-a-half years for murder. But he isn’t sitting there quietly.
The real life cannibal is suing a movie studio from behind bars, trying to stop the release of a film he claims is based on his life.
The flick, called “Butterfly: A Grimm Love Story”, features former “Felicity” star Keri Russell as a grad student studying the case of a prisoner locked away for killing a man and eating his flesh.
She reluctantly becomes drawn into the world of what’s being called the “Internet cannibal community.”
But though the character’s name in the story is changed, Meiwes insists it’s a note-for-note re-creation of his story and he didn’t sanction it. So he’s having his lawyer try to stop it from hitting theatres on March 9th.
"I feel used," the killer fumes from prison.
Meiwes admits filming the killing of the man he met over the web, but refuses to call it murder since his ‘victim’ volunteered. But it may not be his depiction that’s really behind this already bizarre tale that just keeps getting stranger.
He’s due back in court for the second stage of his trial which could see him get a life sentence. And he believes if the film’s "false and stigmatized" version of his crime is released, it will negatively impact the outcome.
The distributor insists it has no plans to pull the movie and will release it as scheduled in Germany.
But that may be the only place you’ll be able to see it. So far, it isn’t going to be shown in North America.
