Replaced my cdrw drive with a dvdrw(lg tri-mode) drive however, when I go to make a data disc, the software just saves an 'image' file, and the software that came with it (Nero) doesn't allow me to use it like a drag and drop/or offer any other option. Now, I know I saw something here some time ago, but can't seem to find it.
anyway, if someone can point me in the right direction or tell me what I should be doing, if there is software I should be using, and oh, and what type of dvd i should be using, I have some dvd+r and I think these might not be the ones i should be using...thanks! :vxd:

If you are using Nero, its simple, just go to make a data disk, it splits the screen in two, drag from the right (your pc) to the left (dvd you are burning) and burn.

Doesn't matter, dvd + or - makes no difference for data discs.

You can also install the packet writing application that came with the LG disc and you can write data to DVD directly from Explorer.

If you are burning an image file to disc, just go File > Open and select your image file.

If you want to burn data to disc from your HD but you are producing an image file instead of burning: make sure you select the correct drive from Recorder > Choose Recorder. Image Recorder does just that - it makes an image file.

The only drive selections I have in Nero are 'Image Recorder' - for three different settings. maybe i will just un-install the software and start again, I'm trying to burn a image saved to disk, and when it starts to appear as if its going to work, it asks me to save to disk in a temp directory.. i should have just invested in those 2gb portable usb drives instead.. :(

Force Nero to recognize your DVD writer. It apparently isn't.

Maybe you need the latest Aspi Driver from Nero.

I presume that you are talking about dragging and dropping files like you would to say a floppy drive. As Jovin said, you need packet writing software.

As to using the software which came with your drive, I don't know what came with your drive, mine being a OEM version came with nothing more than a polythene bag and some bubble wrap!

You say that you use Nero; so you will be able to download InCD (their packet writing software) from the same site you download Nero updates.

I have just bought the LG drive myself, and so far InCD seems to be running OK.

just as a follow up, i have uninstalled ALL the software, and will try again. I seem to remember something about InCD not being installed (because of a prev install or something like that), I guess I should have paid more attention. thanks for all your help.. hopefully it'll work

My computer does not recognize any DVD-R or CD-R media. It keeps saying "Please insert a disc" when I click on my dvd-RW drive, ie. Drive D.

But it will play dvd movies without any problems. Can someone please help resolve this?
