View Full Version : Sound Issue In Conversion
I'm converting an avi. video through Diko. All seems to go well but while the video is fine there is no sound on the last, say, third of the video. The sound is all there in the BT download it's after the conversion to mpg. that the sound disappears at the end. Any one ever encounter this? Got a fix maybe?
Thanks,
Neal.

Use SUPER
Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer.
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
I tried it and first time I converted it to Quicktime. How dumb am I? So next I tried mpeg2. Quality is a little choppy but at least the sound is there. Do you think I should go for mpeg4? What say you all?

What are you converting it for Neal?
If you want to burn it to DVD, select .avi to .vob... and then you're ready to burn it ;)
Thanks again Doctor! I tried the mpg4, quality is better but it won't burn in CloneDVD. The sound is there though. I'll try the .vob. Does it always leave that 'user' bubble?
Thanks,
Neal.
OK I did the vob. conversion and it only allows the mpeg2 which is a little choppy in the video. Do you think I am still doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Neal.

What are your system specs? Are you doing much else with your PC when you're encoding? I'm curious if these are factors in the choppy video.
That could be it Lesley. Seems for some reason I have a lot of programs "running in the background". Don't know how or why.

It could be spyware or programs that launch automatically with windows as part of their default install.
Install and update before running Lavasoft Adaware (http://www.download.com/3405-8022-5153545.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5) to clean up any spyware that may be slowing down your system.
Also go to start, run, type in msconfig and click ok. When the window opens up click on the startup tab and see what's in there. If you're not sure or if there's too much post a screenshot here and we can advise you about what's safe to remove
Going to take two screen to cover them all. Now do i need to run Ad-Aware? I have the Microsoft spyware program that runs every day and it says I am clean.

Run adaware regardless, it won't hurt. Anything it tells you to get rid of go ahead, I've never run into any problems with it

In the first shot uncheck everything except the two refs to avg.
In the second one uncheck everything.
You'd better check your startup folder in start, all programs, startup. There shouldn't be anything in there.
OK. I tried running SpyBot but it wouldn't update. Checksum problem. I'll go get Ad-Aware. I'll also uncheck the stuff in start up. Thanks again!
Neal.

The trick with adaware is to run it weekly and always remember to update it first. I've got clients who remember to run it but never remember to update it. Needless to say it's pretty useless.
You may also want to check add/remove programs and remove anything in there that you didn't install yourself.

For Spybot, select a different location for the update... right beside the 'get update' button, I believe.
Also, you didn't say what your comp specs are... CPU and RAM

I have a feeling that with all the stuff in the startup tab it wouldn't matter if it was a p4 3ghz with 2 gigs of ram, it would still run like an edsel. ;)

I have 49 running processes at the moment... and running SUPER... without any problem ;)
P-4 2.4 / 768 ram... using under 400 meg of ram

I would imagine that all of the processes you have running, given your background, are necessary ones. 99% of the stuff in Neal's startup is the stuff that gets put in startup on the sly when software is installed and does nothing but suck back resources. The only way to know for sure of course is for him to get rid of it all, clean up any spyware that may be lurking and then see how the video goes. I've processed dvd on a P3 500 and had no problems, it was slow but the output was fine.
I have tried using the program Dr. Dan suggested and it converts to the vob. with not as good a quality, as Diko, and it won't load into any program to burn it. So, I retried the conversion with Diko and when you look in the Diko "Author" file (where the finished video is) it has divided the movie into two sections. The first always has the audio portion but the second is silent. Curious to be sure.
