I have a motorola V220, which has a usb connection on it and I bought the motorola phone tools. I can create ringtones in there from any source and transfer them to my phone, as long as the size is small. I generally cut a song to 10sec and then the phone automatically loops it as it rings.

If you have a motorola this is something you can buy.

Same thing here with Motorola cell phone V180 and V551. I use Phone tools to transfer song to be ring tones.

Other phone manufacturers have that or similar options too.

I have the moto E815. It also has a built-in MP3 player. But it also has trans flash memory card (128 mb). I transfer entire songs if i want to the phone or card from my pc and use those as ring tones. No need for Moto Phone tools.

Yup thats exactly what I do, I got the Motorola Razr with the usb connection so i can just send files from my computer to the phone and use them as a ring tone.
