I am looking for a program to keep track of how many and who visits my site as I am advertizing my qualifications on it. Doing some reading, I came across Analog. Am I understanding the documentation correctly, does this program do what I want it to do? Would there be a better option for what I want?

thanks.

Analog is a web traffic analyzer. You would need to install it on the server.

I would recommend this website:
http://sitemeter.com/

I just checked the help site from the server and it uses Analog to display stats, so I may be in luck. Assuming I can get individual stats for my site, could I then use Analog?

I don't want the hit counter visible, and to be honest, if I see more than a couple of hits per day, I would be surprized (most of those being me to test and update). Basically I want to know who is looking so I can make sure they should be looking as it is a personal resume site only given out to potential employers.

Thanks.

who are you hosting with?

University server. Sent them an email and you can view the Analog files but only from a computer on campus. I sent another email back to see if there was a way I can request the log files, but do you have any ideas on how to request log files?

thanks.

You would need to either request the logs from the server admin/uni or they may store them in your FTP account under a folder "logs" for example.

With a log analyzer you will be able to see how many visitors you have, what pages they visit on the site, along with many other stats, but not exactly who they were.

So in order to see ip's, besides the site meter plus version, is there anything else you can recommend?

thanks.

raw log files will show you ALL that you can see. There is nothing more that one can see other then what is contained in the raw logs.

Okay, thanks Chris and Bogie for your help.

thanks. You will be able to see IPs of visitors, but that may not tell you much. IP would show the ISP (owner of the IP) of the visitor, but that could be hundreds of miles from the actual visitor's location. Even if the visitor had their own static IP, it would not disclose who they are.
