hey there,
I've been using my onboard audio for some time now and just recently, the right set of speakers just stopped working. Now, I tried a couple pairs of speakers and they all do the same thing. The one problem is that I also have a front panel audio connector (green) and when plugging the speakers into it, they work fine.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers that came with my mobo, but nothing seems to do it. Is it possible that it burned out? Woudn't that mean the left channel wouldn't work either?
i need some help :(
thanks.

ok you have used the back connector for some time and now its no longer working
on one side. but if you use the front connector it works both sides.
the sound chip is working (not a driver) I would guess that the rear connector
is damaged in some way. being an on board connector it normally cant be replaced.
you may use the front connector or get a new sound card.

I just don't understand how it would get damaged, my motherboard isn't any cheap brand or anything. Just one day it stopped.

Could have been something as simple as a power surge that killed it.. As suggested, try another seperate sound card in there and see if that works. Onboard sound is not the best to start with.

I tried an old soundblaster128 I had in my brothers computer, it worked, only thing is the card is really outdated and i'm having some issues getting the drivers to work.
Also, it could have happened when my powersource fried, but wouldn't it destroy the entire plug? and no just the right stream?
It's no biggie, just hard to understand.

Not necessarily. Could have just taken out one side. Seperate channels in anything electronic can be fried and the other side still works fine. Been down that road with amps before. One side works and the other doesn't. Just one of those things thats hard to explain if you dont understand the way things work with the inner workings of electronics.

Oh I know electronics ;)
now im worried something else might not work :@
thanks for your help, really appreciated, guess i'll either use the front audio, or just get a cheap soundcard.

hmmm, just did some testing, when i have the plug inserted half way both speakers work but theres no bass, when its inserted fully, the right speaker stops and the bass returns, strange...

putting the plug half way in would cause the working chanel to supply
sound to both speakers. also it can damage a chanel by shorting it out.
as you mentioned you can still use the front panel connector.

Just to bump this thread back up, the connector at the back was NOT shot, I spoke with an asus tech and by attatching two jumpers over the left and right audio connectors on my motherboard, the back panel now works. The problem is my front panel cable, hopefully antec will send me another one :D

quite the bump, but asus sent me a replacement cable, after plugging it in i get the exact same issue, right side works, and left fails to do so. Yet when I plug it into the front panel both sides work. Could this be some sort of conflict?
thanks
