I recently bought an LG GSA-4167B..I installed the burner. Reads DVD's just fine. I burned a DVD just fine. My problem is after that first dvd I can't burn anymore I get errors...I installed Nero and asked about DMA settings...when I try to enable it it says that it failed...is this the reason for all my errors or did I get a lemon of a burner ?

First is the dma set for all drives in your device manager?
so others may help you what errors are you seeing?
what disks are you using?
what speed are you burning at?

The others are set yes, The error just says the burn processes has been aborted. Disc's Memorex 8X. I'm trying to burn at 8X...

When it's aborted, Nero logs it.
If you go into the log and scroll down to almost the bottom, you'll see what the error is.
I have many times recently seen "Illegal Disk' error... those are bad disks when you see that.
But there are many errors you can get, so find the error in the log and post it so we can see what it is. ;)

Well that's a small part of it... it would be good to see what else is in there.
Maybe post the whole log just as seen here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=164999
Don't forget to edit out your serial# ;)

I see some conflicting info there KP... first thing is DMA of OFF on all drives... HDDs and opticals... :tch:
You're going to have to start by turning them all on before anything else... that might be causing all other 'errors' ;)
Also, have you tried more than one brand / type of media?

I purchased and installed this same burner over the weekend and in my travels found that new LG 4167B firmware (DL13) has been released.
It won't allow a direct link so you'll have to work your way through Device Driver.

I wouldn't be using a firmware from another country.
If you want firmware update, get it from LG Canada

If applicable,
Install corresponding, current chipset drivers for mobo/system.

Why not? LG says that as long as they are from a LG website, you should be fine.

Everything I've read has said to use the firmware for your local country.
You take your chances when using foreign firmware... many have had success with them... but sometimes it can trash it too.
If you've already done it and it's working, then you're OK... if you haven't yet, I wouldn't without confirming that others have used that one without issues ;)

do you have any backup software or packet writing (INCD etc) software installed ?
