is there some kinda program that i can download that can test ide cable to see if they are bad or going bad?
lol
Don't waste your time - just replace it. I have never seen an IDE cable fail though.

ya but it could be one of 4 ide cables and i don't have the money to waste on buying 4 new ide cables just to fix one bad one
How could it be one of four cables? Motherboards only have two IDE channels. (with very few having more)
If you're having trouble with one particular drive, open up the system and swap the cables around - if nothing changes, that's not the problem.
Odds are, the both cables are fine and there's another problem.

How do you know it's the cable? Do you get any error messages?
What's the other two cables connected to, a Promise card?
More details would help. :)

Not true, my asus has 3 channels (6 drives) also another way is add an ata card it will add a couple of channels as well
aaron158, you don't have any extra cables lying around? with most hard drive purchases you should get one, unless you threw them out. What exactly is happening that makes you think that one of your cables is bad?

no i have no extra cables and the windows event veiw is flooding with disk errors and when i go to the detals of the error it says that its is caused by a failing ide cable but it don't tell me witch dirve or cable is doing this.

It could be as simple as it coming loose from the connectors.
Unplug the ide's from the mother board, and devices.. Check for any damage to pins, etc...
Then reinsert.
