We are going to the U.S. for several days. Rogers says the only way to use our Canadian Pay-as-u-go phones in the U.S. is to buy SIM cards from a US provider and replace the ones in our phones. (I assume we'd also have to buy some airtime cards, as well.) Has anyone here used a Pay-as-u-go cell from Rogers Canada in the U.S. We did that 5 years ago, we just dialled the Kitchener number and someone came on and said "credit card number, please". I gave our Mastercard # and it went thru, no problem. The charges appeared on our next MC statement. I wonder if that would work now?
Thanks to all.

Have you checked out this http://www.simpro.ca
On Rogers there is no roaming for prepaid. You will have to signup for prepaid in the US.

I don't not believe they provide prepaid roaming and even so I would not trust them. So far, I have not heard anything good about SiMPRO.

Thanks freestylegreek. If I understand that site, I would still need to buy a Sim card or use the existing one. We have 1 year of airtime on the one that came with the phone(s) (both new in Dec.2005), so using them is not an option, as far as I know. We each have $100 dollars worth of time that doesn't expire for 1 year, and sure don't want to risk losing that.
Now I have to explore the cost of Sim cards.
Thanks, again
Along with the sim card, you will probably have to have the phone unlocked so it can use sims from other GSM providers.

I investigated the same issue when I started to to school in Buffalo. I wanted to use my rogers pay-as-you go phone while I was down there. I couldn't so I eventually switched to a monthly plan that has roaming in the U.S. I only use my phone down there when I REALLY need it because roaming charges are so expensive.
