Hello All...

I have been looking for a new phone on and off for the last month. I have just come across the Motorola A840 and noticed in the specks on the bell mobility website that it is both gsm and cdma.

I was wondering if anyone has used this phone, and can actually switch the service from cdma to gsm easily, and does it allow a Bluetooth device such as a pocket pc to use the phone as a data connection, allowing you to brows the web from your pda

Here are some pics on the phone. Yes it supports both GSM and CDMA, it does not support GSM in north america.

Hum.... that’s odd. I though it would not support a GSM carrier in Canada. But I was hoping that it would in the US.

Also what I find odd is that certain carriers seem to be blocking features on it. If I get it from telus it has Bluetooth, from Bell its not certain. But the bell unit is quad band, where the telus is dual..

Is it possible that they just do not know the product, or could I be right and they are taking out, or blocking features?

There is only one version of this phone, different carriers are calling it different things. To call it 'quad' band is misleading, as that implies it covers all four GSM frequencies, when it only covers two. As far as I can tell the phone does not have blue tooth, so whoever says it does is either mistaken or talking about a different model. This phone would only be useful if you planned on travelling extensively in europe where you could take advantage of the GSM bands this phone can use, otherwise if you don't plan on leaving north america, look for another phone.
