    Default Boot up/loading/running slow

    Hi Everyone,

We have to stop meeting like this ;p ..

I am here to ask for help or suggestions concerning a problem I am having with my computer. Below are my system stats...

I am running AVG 8 Free anti virus as well as spybot, windows defender. Once every other week I run Malwarebytes as well.

    System stats :

    Windows XP pro
Radeon x1650 secondary - 512 mb Radeon graphics processor
HD adio rear output onbourd sound
    Bios - Phoenix - Award BIOS V6.00PG
    Processor Intel (R) core(TM) 2 Cpu
    6600@2.40 GHz
    Memory 1022 MB ram
I am not sure where to find the name of HD, but it says 149 gig .. 82.5 free space left

I am not sure what other info you need, so if you need more let me know

    Ok, now the problem.

I play some games in particular WoW. Lately my computer has been lagging out a lot. It is also running warm at 55c + when in game, although I haven't monitored it too much until today when this new problem happened.
    Idle it runs at temp - SpeedFan - 1 33c, core 0c - 36c, hd0 - 43c

I have had dual task problems with this computer from the get go, however lately it has gotten much worse. When I was on wow tonight it lagged out badly and I finally disconnected from my modem as I was unable to get to desktop while in game and I couldn't shut down wow. After a few minutes it let me log out. I rebooted my computer to clear up fluff and when it was logging into the screen where it shows windows ... I sat there for a few minutes with the little bar going back and forth. The screen went dark grey.. waited, it turned black, waited, it then went into windows. I then tried to log on IE but it was slow getting on there so I decided to do a cold boot.

I waited about 5 minutes and turned on my puter. It did the same thing only this time I sat on the windows logo screen for close to 8 minutes before it finally took me to desktop. The loading of my task bar has be exceptionally slow the last few weeks as well. So far I haven't received any error messages.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance for any help or advice you give me

If system always had issues from the beginning,
And presuming that the system is free of any malware,
Suggest you test the memory module(s) in use with software such as Memtest86+.

For identifying/listing components making up your system,
You can try software such as PC Wizard

    Ok, I will try that.

Would the things you suggested make my computer lags so bad I lag when I type on here, and also sit on the windows load up screen as well?

Avg, spybot, malware all say my system is free from harmful.. etc. The dusting part, I buy the can of Fellows/Duster and usually spray at least once every three weeks or so.

I am going to try the memory test thingy you suggested and will let you know what it says Then I will do the defrag

Because of the long time trying to log into the windows screen when I boot up, would it be a re format problem?

Thanks guys for responding will let you know the results. .. sad I am typing this faster than my computer is keeping up to it

Try also removing a few items from the task bar and the start up items.

Run msconfig and remove a few more startup items.

Then download CCleaner and run it - remove everything it suggests.
    Running Mandriva PWP 2010.1 64Bit.
    Life is good!

Ok Linux, I will try all that as well. I am unsure tho what is safe to remove from startup, but will remove anything that I know it is thankyou
