Thread: Computer starts up itself

    Default Computer starts up itself

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem but since the cable/internet has been restored after the storm Monday the computer starts up on its own a couple of times a day. I checked the bios wakeup settings and most were disabled except resume by pci device and pci-e device. Also checked tasks and nothing seems scheduled.

    any other ideas? thanks

Is your network card considered a PCI device?

Disconnect the lan cable when it's not in use.

If it still happens, disconnect the power switch from the motherboard; if that doesn't work, the power supply or board could be bad.

Not sure I think it is built on the motherboard, it's a MSI X58 Pro-E board. Is there any harm in disabling the two pci devices? Thanks for the help Bill.

Whether it is separate or on the board, it could still be considered PCI. AMD's advice to remove the LAN cable would tell you if it could possibly be related to the Network adapter.

Actually I think it was the PCI card because I disabled it and it's been almost a day and no startups. Thanks again for the help.
