NAND flash memory downturn to continue

Quote:
NAND flash supply will grow 149% this year

July 23, 2008 (IDG News Service) A global glut of NAND flash memory chips, which store songs, photos and other data in gadgets ranging from iPods to digital cameras, will continue for at least the next few months because companies have been slow to rein in production, according to DRAMeXchange Technology Inc..
The market research firm, which is based in the heartland of the global memory spot market in Taipei, predicted that the NAND flash supply will grow 149% this year despite worsening prices for the chips. The problem is that chip makers such as Samsung Electronics, Hynix Semiconductor...

Bell Canada Devises Backup Plan To Kill Wholesale Competitors
Posted On 07-18-2008
Last March, Bell Canada started throttling wholesale competitors without telling them, ensuring that smaller ISPs couldn't offer a superior un-throttled connection to consumers. The move thrust the previously subdued network neutrality debate into the Canadian spotlight. It also drew the attention of Canadian regulators, who demanded Bell actually prove P2P congestion made such a tactic necessary (they couldn't). Now a post in our forums by TekSavvy CEO Rocky Gaudrault suggests Bell Canada's next plan is to double dip.

Guess it's time to raise another stink and prepare for another end of month Bell event. Seems Bell may be planning another... Read More...

A screen name once connected to animated TV dad Homer Simpson is being used to spread malware. In a 2003 episode of The Simpsons, writers revealed that Homer’s e-mail address was chunkylover53[nospam]@aol.com. Prior to the episode’s airing, the address was registered by one of the show’s writers, who used it to answer hundreds of e-mails from Simpsons fans. Years later, the chunkylover53 screen name has resurfaced, and it’s now being used to distribute a trojan disguised as a Simpsons movie file.

Google: Bell Canada Is Breaking The Law
Posted On 07-08-2008
Google has jumped into the fight between independent ISPs and Bell Canada, which earlier this year angered wholesale competitors by throttling P2P traffic before it reaches their networks. According to Google, Bell Canada is breaking the law by engaging in such throttling, which Bell says was necessary because of congestion (something they've been unable to prove). In a submission made to Canadian regulators the CRTC, Google had this to say:
"Bell claims its throttling of peer-to-peer applications is a reasonable form of network management. Google respectfully disagrees. Network management does not include Canadian carriers’ blocking or degrading... Read More...
